Mellow Out @ TeaLuxe
Tea usually isn’t my cup of tea. I prefer giant, calorie-infused lattes (Starbucks’ new Honey Latte is to die for). However, TeaLuxe (108 Newbury) has inspired me to change my ways. This morning, I ambitiously decided to forego my daily visit to Espresso Cafe and instead venture elsewhere. TeaLuxe’s cozy and laid back atmosphere would’ve immediatly put me at ease had I not been desperately wishing I was decked out in hippie garb. My black stiletto boots and Italian red leather gloves seemed tremendously inappropriate. With over 100 teas to choose from, the menu was quite overwhelming. I ended up ordering Creme Brulee flavored tea, enthralled with the idea that my favorite dessert could take the form of a calorie-free liquid. That was a dumb call. Not surprisingly, it didn’t taste like a sinful indulgence at all. I awkwardly pretended to enjoy it as I sat eavesdropping on other people’s orders. The regulars (the coolest, most mellow people I’ve ever seen) knew to stick to the basics; Jasmine Earl Grey and White Tangerine were crowd favorites.
Overall, TeaLuxe would’ve been a great experience had I not been so unprepared. Next time, I’ll stop by Buried Treasures (28 Haviland) beforehand and buy myself a pair of tie-dye PJ pants and a reggae hat. I’ll order a fruity tea, and won’t forget to bring a book to read as I enjoy the grade-A people watching.

That damn honey latte is my weakness, I tried it on impulse and am now a slave to it’s bizzare but delicious existence.
